Seven Things You Don’t Want in Your Attic

Your attic isn't just an empty space above the living quarters. It's part of your home's structure that has a purpose. The rafters support the roof and distribute its weight to the framing members throughout the home. Joists support the ceiling and help distribute weight evenly so the house stands strong. But there's a lot more going on inside than just the home's structure.

If it's been a while since you visited your attic, you might find a surprise or two. Whatever is lurking up in that dusty area, Clean Crawls attic cleaning services can clean it up and make it right again.

Here are seven things that you don't want to find in your attic, but that we can take care of:

#1: Holes and Gaps

Attics aren't finished with interior living in mind. They're usually filled with gaps and cracks, and sometimes holes. Many of these are intentional. They help encourage proper ventilation throughout your home, which keeps condensation from building up. But some openings aren't integral to the home's structure, and can allow in air, insects of all varieties, bats, raccoons, mice, and, well, you get the idea. Our attic cleaning service team can evaluate openings and seal the ones that leave your home at risk.

#2: Pests and Their Offspring

If you've got holes in the attic, it would be a genuine surprise not to find a pest or two. Maybe they're squatting and not paying rent, or maybe they're occasional visitors that leave an unhealthy mess behind. Either way, we can remove unwanted pests and leave the attic clean again.

#3: Debris of All Types

You might be surprised to learn what's laying around in the attic. Of course pests can leave droppings, but past residents might have moved out and gifted you with boxes of bags of their unwanted belongings. Scrap building materials aren't an uncommon find. If raccoons have been there, you might find anything from a fast-food wrapper to someone's missing bracelet. We'll clear out the debris and make the space tidy again.

#4: Water in Almost Any Form

If you have water in the attic, you've got problems. Standing water might indicate a roof leak, broken plumbing, high humidity or even heavy condensation. General dampness indicates that your ventilation system isn't working properly. Standing water means something more. But Clean Crawls can seek out the source and make your attic dry and healthy.

#5: Mold in its Numerous Varieties

Did you know that there are tens of thousands of different molds? That's according to the Centers for Disease Control. Some of them are extremely hazardous to humans. And some are merely allergy triggers. But all of them thrive in damp conditions. Where there's water, there's probably mold. But after we've finished, your attic will no longer harbor spores that can (and do) spread throughout the whole house.

#6: Odors Most Foul

With the number of varmints and dampness issues that can plague an attic, it's no wonder that some of them aren't exactly fresh as a daisy. It's normal for an attic to smell musty. But when odors are worse than that, they can filter down into your home. We'll strip away the source and leave you with a fresher home from top to bottom.

#7: Insulation Issues

Attics need insulation. But insulation is a science, and Structural Building Components Association says that getting it wrong can cost you 40 percent on your energy bills. Remember those pests? Some of them have the bright idea that insulation makes a comfortable bed. That means even the best insulation might be shredded, piled up and rendered completely ineffective. Mold and dampness can ruin the fluffy stuff, too. If your insulation has seen better days, we'll remove what's there and replace it with a new layer of energy-saving material.

You could probably think of a hundred things that you'd prefer over climbing stairs or a rickety pull-down ladder just to spend some time in the attic. But the longer it's left unattended, the worse its condition might become.
